Watney’s is a special brand within the Craft Beer market, as it is steeped in a long and fascinating history. Brewed in London since 1837, it was once the UK’s biggest selling beer. The Watney Cup was the first sponsored football tournament in the UK, with Derby County beating Manchester United in the final in 1970.
After a couple of dormant generations, Watney’s has been reignited by a tenacious trio of entrepreneurial friends, who between them have more than 30 years’ experience in the brewing industry. This was their first year at the event and we helped them to come back in style. The stand was buzzing, with Grapefruit’s staff promoting the brand to the event’s 12,000 industry experts and passionate hobbyists.
Craft Beer Rising was hosted in one of Watney’s old homes, the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, and it was as if the brand had come full circle, retaking its rightful place alongside some of craft beer’s foremost movers and shakers.
Grapefruit is delighted to add its years of experience in sales and promotion into the mix to support the revival of this legendary craft beer.
